Growing up, my parents restored a number of old houses- Victorian, two Arts & Crafts and a mid-century modern. We went on countless historic house tours and I would spend summer afternoons looking through my dad's library of architecture books. So, it wasn't a surprise to anyone that I majored in art history with a focus on architecture in college. Many years later, my daily job has nothing to do with the arts. Architecture and decorative arts is a wonderful escape from the serious nature of my employment and my day-to-day family obligations.
Decorative objects allow anyone to bring the flavor of a place or time into their home. I enjoy setting a table that creates a mood- Moroccan, a windswept beach, Bauhaus, Deco, Swedish- the possibilities are endless. Join my sporadic musings on flatware, plates, floral arrangements and decorative things.
I made two arrangements this year for Thanksgiving. There are two photos of the centerpiece in the copper trough. The other arrangement is in an ikebana pot my husband found on Ebay a few years ago. I used eucalyptus leaves and pods, miniature pumpkins, chrysanthemums and some other foliage.
